QD Group (Pty) Ltd is a leading South African designer, manufacturer and distributor of electronic security equipment, radios, cash protection systems and asset tracking solutions.

QD Group is a wholly South African owned company, employs 190 full time staff and has a turnover of approximately R100 million per annum. It operates from offices and a factory in Kyalami, Midrand with branches in Cape Town, Durban, East Rand and Pretoria and is represented in the Free State and Eastern Cape.

QD Group invests heavily in research and development of new products on an ongoing basis. It also has long established relationships and distribution rights for leading international companies such as Transtrack and Visonic.

QD Group consists of four operating divisions which are described in detail below:

QD Group’s Electronic Security Division (formerly trading as QD Electronics (Pty) Ltd and founded in 1978) manufactures and distributes a complete range of alarm panels, alarm transmitters (radio, fixed line and GPRS), remote controls, network equipment, control room base stations and software, infra red detection devices, outdoor beams and panic systems. The division also provides access to licensed and dedicated radio networks and GPRS networks to facilitate the end to end solutions for alarm monitoring and reaction services. The brands are leaders in the industry, and include QD, Pi, Codex, Guardian, Magnum and Visonic. The products are supported by extensive training, on-site assistance and technical support. Major customers include ADT Tyco, Chubb, Protea Coin Security and Fidelity Security. The company has an active customer base of over 400 security companies and installers.

QD Group’s Asset Protection Division (formerly trading as Macdesign Technologies (Pty) Ltd and founded in 1992) is the market leader in the design and manufacture of a complete range of electronic tamper proof cash protection boxes and teller stations with South African Reserve Bank approved smoke and ink dye technology. This technology is also deployed in protecting ATM's. In addition it produces sophisticated electronic locks, time delay locks and inter-locking systems with full audit trails. The Division distributes the Dutch company Transtrack's software for the tracking and tracing of cash bags and containers, for cash planning and optimization and for cash centre management. The products are used by leaders in the Banking, Financial Services, Retail and Cash in Transit industries including Absa, Standard Bank, Nedbank, Capitec Bank, G4S Cash Management Services, G4S Botswana, SBV and Protea Coin Group as well as by metropolitan councils, retailers, fuel retailers and fast food chains. Brand names include Cash Defender, Titan and Trojan.

QD Group is a shareholder in Cash Connect Management Solutions (Pty) Ltd, which designs, manufactures and distributes intelligent safe products for retail cash management and provides an end to end cash management system (with full on-line information and reports) from the time cash is deposited into a secure category rated safe on a retailer's site to the time the money is settled into the retailer's bank account.

QD Group’s Radio Division is the only South African manufacturer of a range of two way mobile radios, trunking mobile and data radios under the brand names of Bantam and Tracer, and also distribute an exclusive range of high quality mid and high band portable radios, antennas and accessories.

QD Group’s Imaging and Power Components Division (formerly The Components Group (Pty) Ltd or TCG), was acquired as part of the merger of QD Electronics and Macdesign in 2003. It distributes specialized electronic components and cost effective compatible office automation consumables. It is now a leading supplier of quality, OEM specified, generic toners, developers, drums, cleaning blades, rollers, laser and inkjet cartridges for most makes of copiers, faxes and printers. A range of thermal printers are distributed for point of sale, self service terminals and other OEM specifications.
